Join Bright Blue on Friday afternoon for the next episode of Bright Blue TV on the theme: Keeping the Union together.

In 2014 voters in Scotland rejected separation from the rest of the United Kingdom. Since then, however, the SNP has won the majority of Scotland’s seats in the House of Commons at each subsequent general election, and support for separation has grown since Brexit and the start of the coronavirus pandemic. If the SNP were to win a majority at the Holyrood elections later this year, Nicola Sturgeon says she will demand a new referendum against the wishes of the UK Government, setting the scene for a constitutional showdown. Recently Boris Johnson controversially labelled devolution a disastrous mistake and there are some who agree with him, while others such as Gordon Brown believe that further reform can find a lasting settlement. The Union in its current form is strained and in danger of fracturing, but separation isn’t inevitable. How can the Union be kept together?

Bright Blue TV is hosted by Chief Executive of Bright Blue, Ryan Shorthouse. In this episode he will be joined by Murdo Fraser MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Henry Hill, News Editor at ConservativeHome and Christine Jardine MP, Liberal Democrat, Treasury Spokesperson.
