Bright Blue responds to the Government increasing the time before which migrants can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain from five to ten years, as called for in Bright Blue’s recent essay collection, A positive contribution: An honest and detailed plan to improve our immigration system.
Ryan Shorthouse, Executive Chair at Bright Blue, commented:
“We need to builder an immigration system that is more highly selective – accepting fewer migrants overall, with those who are accepted highly likely to be contributors to our economy and the local communities they live in. That is why the route to a visa or settlement in the UK should be demanding: the rewards of living and being resident here, after all, are great.”
Bright Blue had previously called for people to be lawfully resident in the UK for a minimum of ten years before being able to settle in the UK.
